One last thing!!

Over the course of this enduring activity, I have found oh so many things to help and aid myself and others in the technological world. Web 2.0 is hott stuff, while the podcasts are not too far behind. I also found by using such programs as excel, we can make our lives so much easier as we start in the teaching world! I must commend Dr. Wall in assisting me in every step we came upon, she was there with open arms to lead us in the right direction. As far as the blogging goes, it may continue, I will say as a whole it has been a pretty neat tool getting to write my own things as well as reading many others!! I know this is farewell for now, but good luck in all you do and God bless you all!!

Thing #23

Creative commons is a way of allowing others to share your material. When talking about our "23 things", I thought until now, that Dr. Wall had taken it upon herself to create something like this. I mean, she did win a very prestigious award! To me it only made since when you put 2 and two together.. However, I was wrong, The original 23 things was created by Helene Blowers. Using her "23 things" as a tool for her staff to further educate themselves in the technology department! Since then, her original 23 things has moved on and on and on to many other teachers and professors in the world!

Thing #22

Podcasts came around in 2005 and even today I knew little or nothing really about them. Only until being assigned to having to make my own, the only thing I ever heard about them was that some day, professors could use them to teach their lessons. With this being said, I can now understand what in the world they were referring to and talking about. After messing around and searching the different podcasts that are out there, I asked a professor about podcasts.. He then led me to this particular podcasts that I have found to be very unique and neat! We used the link in itunes to access this podcast.

Thing #21

Ok, so after doing the youtube one, It took me a while to get back on the track of things and start to do work again. Anyways, this blog is about Animoto! If you haven't heard about it, you should definitely check it out!! It's a very neat site to where you can take your photos and make them into videos and such with music playing behind them. Once again, a pretty neat feature dealing with technology! Here is my awesome video!!

Thing #20

You tube is also one of these new technological features that has came out and can benefit us in so many different ways. Although, most of the time, I only look up funny videos on there, there are also instructional videos to show you everything from how to play the piano, to how to use microsoft word. Whatever the case, I'm pretty sure youtube will have some form of video on it. When the instructions for this post asked us to link a video that we found on youtube, this one came to mind. I just recently stumbled upon it, but no matter how many times I watch it- I laugh histerically every time!! Hope you enjoy!!

Here is another video I enjoy watching to get a good laugh.. Depends on what you're into bur it incorporates a variety of music that I like!! Funny Video- check it out!!

Thing #19

Although I never thought facebook and myspace would be overcome, there are many other social networks who are not far behind in the popularity ranks! I checked out teacherpop and found it to be a very interesting site to communicate with others in some of the same ways as facebook and myspace work. Giving praise to know Dr. Wall created something of such nature makes it all the better!! To actually be able to say, "hey, I know the person who created and is in charge of that," makes me so excited. I know it may not be on the same level as knowing someone like Michael Jordan or someone with such popularity, but it will come!! In due time, it will come and we'll all be able to say hey, we know her on a personal level!! Other than that, I created an account along with posting comments and attempting to put up a picture... That will also have to wait till later tonight where I'm on another computer... For some random reason this on isn't wanting to cooperate!!

Thing #18

Facebook and Myspace have been two of the most renowned social networking sites in today's day and age. Since the beginning college, I have had a facebook account as well as a myspace account. Both of which I use to communicate with friends and family in many different ways. You use both of these as reminders to remind you of which events you will be attending or someone's birthday you forgot about. Something they just added not too long ago to both sites is the chat feature. I haven't found myself using this too often, but this feature is neat because it allows you to chat with any and all of your friends whenever you are online. You could use this in the education department a couple different ways. From an educators standpoint, you could keep track of the students in your classroom or even school. From a students standpoint, you could use the chat feature as a way of online tutoring.

Thing #17

When I first thought about this particular part of the project, I was convinced tagging dealt with tagging more about pictures. I didn't know if was going to be used like this. Very similar to a bookmark at first, I was confused as to what this had over a regular bookmark or favorite we've known to use for some time now.. However, I was soon to discover that it had so many more options than a bookmark has. Even though the things you tag are public, I have found this to be a neat tool to be used in education. I think as a teacher, you could assign assignments, using particular tags you have made under your user name, for the students to take advantage of in effort to finding the answers within the pages you have tagged.

Thing #16

Google has pretty much taken over my life.. Being that there is still many things in life that I don't know the answer to , I tend to look to google as a companion in that department being that I use it on a daily basis. From looking up questions that are assigned homework, to looking up fun internet games to play while I'm taking a break from my schoolwork. Either way, I even have google chrome set up as my default browser to get online.. From there I have it customized the way I like for it to look like so it doesn't necessarily get old to look at.. Seemingly like the basic internet explorer window that everyone is accustomed to using everywhere known to those who get online. Saying this, "thing #16" asks you to experiment with other web 2.0 tools. So I chose to go with igoogle. First off, adding an online calendar accessible from any and all computers is a must. I store everything in my cell phone as far as appointments, assignments, and many other things such as birthdays.. I know I don't have the most high tech cell phone like almost everyone else with the iphones and such, but I do know I try to make it work like those fancier phones! The only bad things with using a cell phone to organize things of such nature is they break. Once they break, they're broken and the information you once saved is non-transferable so it's LOST!!! So this is somewhere an online calendar would be most beneficial for me!!

Thing #15

Wiki's are down right just AMAZING!! All those classes and projects where everyone had to group up and work together has now hit a new day and age. Being able to go in and edit things as a group instead of having to email things back and forth, and back and forth again in order to edit something or someone's idea has made life so much easier. With this being said, I wouldn't have known of such things as this if I weren't in this class! Now, all those countless emails it took hours to delete because they were never right and just took up space can be cut out without ever having to happen.

Thing #14

Flow Charts and Mind Maps are can be found to be a creative example of expressing ur ideas about certain topics. Let alone, they can also be powerful teaching tools. I can't tell you how many books I've went through in college that didn't have either one of these. Just for the simple fact that it doesn't happen... I recently used bubbl.us in creating a mind map (concept map) for an integrated unit plan over Thanksgiving! I found it to be resourceful, easy , and very easy on one's eyes (colorful).

When talking about the flowcharts found at flowchart.com and gliffy, I only played around with them and didn't really create something that was as important as the concept map. I find these things to be more beneficial than people think about them. Having the technology and resources such as these also cut time in having to go back and start over if you were to be using the generic pencil and paper.

Test Document

Hey there!!

This is my test document in Zoho Writer. This is a neat new thing that I think will help all of those who have any type of writing assignments. I'm new to the Zoho writer but have used Google Docs prior to today. I started using it when my Microsoft Office was expired and didn't have the money and/or resources to purchase a new version. Essentially, this is a new generation of writing documents and it's FREE!!!!!

Thing #12

I have found that Google was more than just a search engine some time ago! After using the many options Google has to offer on their site, you will find that it has so much more than meets the eye. I know that I found Google to be more than a best friend sometimes. Even when I was late getting started on an assignment, it was always there waiting to help me! There's an educational help right off the top!! Using Google has sometimes helped in too many ways known, likewise considering it a best friend!! Things I have found to be very useful were those such as Google Earth, and Google notebook. Using Google earth, you can search and find lesson plans for classes. You can look at houses you are interested in buying. You can even look at the distance between two points to see how far and long it would be to make a trip.

Thing #11

Now that I'm finally starting to get a grasp on this stuff, it's beginning to make more and more sense.. It seems as if the more I do for this project, the easier some things in life get!! This RSS has opened doors I never thought would be seen!! After using it for a little bit, I have found myself subscribing to numerous things.. Such things as MSN, K12 online conference and flat classroom project. After subscribing and beginning to follow some of these things, I found that some I wasn't that interested in.. haha I did look at the Dallas news and seem interested being that I would have used that a couple weeks ago when we took a road trip to Dallas!!

Thing #10

I have found that RSS feeds and newsreaders to be very interesting because they allow you to combine all the many things you are trying to track into one place. Accessible from one place instead of worrying about having to go from one thing to another just to find the smallest piece of information you need to start your day.

Using this in the classroom setting could be for something like tracking everyone's blogs! That would be an easy way to track and see when everyone posts a new one or just to check up on things!!

Thing #9

All of these are really cool things to be able to use. After looking at them for myself and creating such, it becomes a fun and exciting activity for someone to do. I think that if I were to have my class make their own word mosaics from papers discussing their favorite hobbies, it would get quite interesting. You could even do favorite Christmas stories, and have them write summaries to post in the hallway for other students to look over and see with the whole idea and picture just being their first initial in their name!

My favorite subject in my younger years was spelling. This is why I chose the spell with flickr mashups site. I found it to be very interesting showing the many different ways to spell words and such. Things you can post on a powerpoint and such and have the students to look at for many different reasons. These mashups could also be used by creating ideas for spelling activities or to write the spelling words on a poster to hang in the wall. However you may want to use this, it can be very beneficial to you and the students as well!!

Thing #7

Flickr is something new to me as well as the many other things in this class. After getting on it and searching the many things I did, I found this website to be comparable to those such as Facebook and Myspace. I know that it's not the same but when my best friend posts like 3,000 pics on facebook and has to tag and comment on every one of them, you can start to see the resemblance between the 3. By using Flickr, I found some really neat photos! Some of which were of some of my favorite hobbies, like football, and baseball, and even riding dirt bikes! The one I found to be the most interesting was this one of the rider pulling off this trick and the picture being taken from point blank range! Hope others enjoy this as well as I did! This photo was posted by MX Shooter.

Winning 1st place in the Classifieds and Directories category was Craigslist. This is something I have been found to be using on a daily basis. This is a web 2.0 tool that is growing day by day with the amount of things and options available for people to use. I found Craigslist to be a source of too many things to name. It has everything! Such examples found are Cars and Trucks for sale, discussions about crafts, all the way to a lost and found section for the local community. You can search for jobs here, there, or anywhere. Looking for a mate from Argentina-- You can find it all on Craigslist. It is unspeakable of all the many capabilities you have once on this web 2.0 tool. I believe that Craigslist could be used in the school systems by using such categories as the discussion boards to either talk about or debate certain topics, to searching for jobs in a particular place in the world, to even volunteering for community service projects.

Thing #5

With the world advancing, technologically speaking, on a day by day basis as it is today, we shouldn't be far from reaching a time where everything is electronic and computer driven. Not only industrial, but also in education. Since I've graduated high school and barely knew anything about powerpoint, kids are beginning to make powerpoints now at the age of 6. With that in mind, you can imagine the rate at which technology is changing in the world. A new thing I am beginning to learn about is Web 2.0. After viewing some of the web 2.0 websites and programs, I am finding this new ordeal to be a vital key in future educational learning! Being able to watch someone live using one of the web 2.0 tools could be very beneficial to teachers as well as students. If someone were absent because they were sick and had access to a computer somehow to pull up the web 2.0 would give them access to the daily agenda and lessons taught. This would help tremendously in the aspect of those who miss school all the time and just expect to hop right back into things when the lessons they missed were key to learning the ones that come in the future. The only question I have for things as advanced as such would be to ask if this would benefit society or not as far as attendance-wise. Being that one could just skip out whenever they would like and still have the lesson. Which in the end, one of the lesson's learned it being somewhere on time such as for a job..

Thing #4

Blogging is becoming somewhat interesting. I know it has been a while since I have written on here or even thought about school work in general. So I'm finally back in action. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before I'm finished!

By commenting on others' posts, it helps in creating somewhat of a relationship between people. It lets you in a sense create a conversation with one another or let someone know where you stand on a certain situation.

Two of the points I found in the blogger commenting to be the most important
were communication and others' perspectives. I haven't commented on anyone's blogs as of yet. That will come in time! Especially since we have till the end of the semester to do this part. Another thing that will help out is when I become more acquainted with this whole blogging process.

Thing #3

Thing number 3 asks you to register my blogger with Dr. Wall and the school. I have done so, and am currently awaiting to see what happens with the next step! Hope all is well and will write again soon!!

P.S. This Blogger thing is pretty neat!

Thing #2

Alright, so here I am once again. I have finally accomplished thing number 2. I have set up my own blog, added an avatar, and wrote my first blog ever! I am usually pretty computer savvy and know what to do, but with this whole blogging thing I am completely lost! If anyone knows some pointers that would help me with mine, please let me know! I hope Mr. Brady's Hunch is an appropriate name as well!

Thing #1

#1 of the 23 things was to watch a video of the 7½ habits. This gave plenty of information and tips for lifelong leaning. It covers everything from how one may learn, to the different ways to learn, to creating a learning contract to keep up with current goals one may have. I found this video to be informational and quite helpful because I have found that the older I get, the more I tend to overlook trying to learn more in life. Rarely ever thinking about broadening my horizon so to speak. This opened my eyes to different learning experiences.
